Special “Discover Sailing” rides with a professional captain aboard selected sailboats will be available each day for visitors attending the 2019 Progressive Cedar Point Boat Show, August 22-25.

“Discover Sailing” has been conducted annually by the sailing experts from Harbor North (Huron, OH) and more than 500 people have experienced their first sail since the program began. It’s not just a ride on a big sailboat, either.

While the licensed captains will dock the “Discover Sailing” boats, show visitors will all participate in handling the boat from raising and lower sails to taking their turn on the helm while under full sail in Sandusky Bay. Harbor North, also known for its popular sailing schools, is a dealer for new Hanse Sailboats as well as pre-owned and brokerage boats.

Speaking of sailing schools, Riverfront Yacht Sales, another exhibitor and dealer for Jeanneau Sailboats, is also active in teaching activities, specifically in the Cleveland area. Partnering with Sandusky’s Erie Islands Sailing School, Riverfront offers the America Sailing Association’s basic sailing courses #101 & #103. “These fully hands-on classes aren’t your booze cruise,” quips Riverfront’s Rob Morley, “they include up to 16 total hours aboard large fixed-keel sailboats learning everything from steering to anchoring. It all leads to sailing with confidence.”

In addition, Riverfront supports The Foundry On The River, Cleveland’s non-profit community rowing and sailing center. It specializes in introducing youth of all income levels to the sailing experience. In 2016, a partnership with Cleveland Metroparks enabled The Foundry to create Cleveland’s first permanent community sailing center on Lake Erie in the Historic Coast Guard Station at Whiskey Island that had been abandoned since 1976.

Besides the sailing activities, whether you’re rockin’ to live music at the new Waterfront Pub or rollin’ aboard some 300 power and sailboats, visitors to this year’s 47th edition of the Great Lakes oldest and largest in-water show will see boats ranging from PWC’s to motor yachts, inflatables to fishing machines. And while this year’s show has undergone major changes with all-new features and attractions, one old tradition has not been changed. It’s the hallmark “Discover Sailing” experience that gives anyone wishing to find out what sailing is really all about the chance to do so hand-on!

New show hours will be: Opening Thursday (Aug. 22) – 12 Noon to 7:30pm; Friday & Saturday (Aug. 23-24) 10:00am to 7:30pm; Sunday (Aug. 25) 10:00am to 5:00pm. And, if you don’t like lines and like discounts, get your tickets in advance at:
